Growing up in Arkansas Joey and Ray Bartholomew learn to survive their parents' fights, their father's adultery, their mother's threats of suicide and the oppression of the religious Bible Belt. The journey begins with an attack on the two brothers in the present. The story takes us back in time, showing how Joey and Ray's bond was created and how it saved them.
